Certified Product Marketing Manager?
We’re often asked which certification is “best”, but the answer depends on your role and your career goals. Both roles require that you understand customer needs, market conditions and dynamics, and the competitive landscape. If you’re interested in defining and building the product to satisfy customers, then becoming a Certified Product Manager is probably the right choice for you. If you’re more interested in how to define and execute a marketing strategy that optimizes the promotion and growth of a product in the marketplace, then becoming a Certified Product Marketing Manager is probably what you’re more interested in.
Both certifications require a complete understanding of the entire product lifecycle from the first idea to the next upgrade of a mature product. Each of our Optimal Product Management: Self-Study courses provides the additional training tuned to the specific role you’re interested in. Each course explains the two roles and how they must collaborate with each other for success, with the Product Manager more focused on product strategy, and the Product Marketing Manager more focused on marketing strategy. The Certified Product Marketing Manager course covers the additional topics of Brands, Buyer Behavior, and Supply Chains & Distribution, to cover questions that can be expected on these topics in the CPMM certification exam.
When you take either our Live Online or In-Person courses, you’ll also be given access to the choice of one of the two Self-Study courses at no additional cost. The Self-Study course allows you to review materials from the course for one year, and provides additional study aids, so you’re assured you’ll be fully prepared for whichever certification you want to pursue.

Taking the Exam
Once you’ve completed your 280 Group course and used the corresponding study aids, you’ll be ready to schedule your certification exam with AIPMM. Exams are proctored online and typically consist of 120 questions, split up into four 30-minute sections, giving you a chance to take a break between each section. You have two opportunities to pass the exam within one year of purchasing your course.
